In 1908, my Grandparents William Joseph Beecham and Margaret Cecilia (Mahoney) Beecham traveled from their home in Palmyra, Nebraska USA for a visit to his birthplace near Clogheen, Co. Tipperary and to her parents birthplace, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. They acquired a stack of postcards on thattrip that were kept by the family. My husband digitally scanned the cards and made a website about them in 1997.

The last week of April 2002, we visited Ireland ourselves for the first time. The kindness and helpfulness of everyone we met there was remarkable. We would especially like to thank Karol DeFalco andMr. Edmund O'Riordan, MA of Skeheenarinka. Their knowledge of area history is indeed masterful. Mr. John Twohey of Cloheen generously took time to show my husband the locations from which the old pictures in Clogheen were taken. Mr. Edwin Nolan of the Newsbox in Mitchelstown provided a copy of the local map and told us where to findall the old viewpoints there.

Our hosts Georgina and Lester at the Two Rivers B&B in Clogheen were wonderful. We stayed at several B&Bs during our trip and enjoyed much better breakfasts at all of them than one might expect. Georgina's cooking easily was the best of all.

The website with the early twentieth century postcard images now has some links to pictures taken from the same places in 2002. We hope sharing them over the internet brings you some of the pleasure we had in acquiring them.

Go n-éirí leat (all the best!),
